Inspiring the Next Generation of Women to Lead

“The program has given me the confidence to speak up and give feedback to teammates.” – Sarah Stramsek

Emerging Leaders graduate Sarah Stramsek now recognises that becoming a good leader is not about knowing everything, it’s about understanding how to bring out the best in yourself – because when you invest in yourself your team will naturally benefit.

The Emerging Leaders Program has taught Sarah how to back herself, be courageous and take on new opportunities.

The WA Cricket Foundation is now calling on the next group of up-and-coming young female cricketers to put their hand up for its Emerging Leaders program.

The program provides a unique opportunity for young women from across WA to come together to share their love of cricket and develop leadership skills both on and off the pitch.

Former participant Sarah Stramsek joined the program as the only girl in her local cricket team. The Collie-based teenager says she wanted to learn how to speak up and how to make a difference to her team.

“The program has given me that confidence to speak up and give feedback to teammates. To ensure that whether I’m giving positive or negative feedback it has a positive effect on my teammate,” she said.

Sarah said she thrived being in an environment surrounded by passionate young women who also loved cricket.

“It’s awesome to see so many girls talk and understand cricket. The sport is going to keep growing and thriving and I hope women get more and more opportunities, “ she said.

“I’m proud to have participated in a program that plays a part in growing the sport, she said. This program plays a part in making sure the sport grows and we have these conversations,” she said.

Isaac Hatch’s daughter, Tia, was also a participant in this year’s program and he encouraged her to take part.

“The program offered her another skill set that’s not only useful within cricket but also transferrable in other areas of her life,” he said.

Registrations for the next program are now open until October 15, with sessions running between November and April for young women aged 14-17.
